What is a rail shoulder?
Rail shoulder is cast in the concrete rail ties to fix the elastic rail clips. There are two types of rail shoulders available, the cast-in shoulder and the weld-on rail shoulder, both of which are used for the fixing of elastic rail clips.

Cast-in Rail Shoulder.
The casting shoulders as the embedded part of the rail way fastening system are pressed in concrete sleeper and work together with the E clip to fasten the rail. The cast in shoulder is made by casting from iron, such as, GB/T 1348-1988, NF EN 1563(1997), ISO1038, DIN 1693, JIS G5502 (2001), KS D 4302, GOST 7293(1985) or BS EN 1563(1997).
Weld-on Rail Shoulder
The weld-on shoulder is used at the typical position of rail where the rail shoulder is weld on flat steel plate rather than the standard tie plate. The weld-on shoulder production method is hot forging, it is fabricated according to AREA standard. The steel material type for weld-on shoulders production can be low or medium carbon steel, which varies with your specific requirements.

When assembling, you should first determine the direction that needs to prevent the rail from crawling, and place the wooden bearing plate, and clamp the main and auxiliary bodies of the rail anchor on the bottom edge of the rail, so that the active surface of the rail shoulder is consistent with the crawling direction of the rail, and then follow the rail Insert the connecting bolt at one end of the anchor body, add a flat washer and a spring ring, and screw the nut so that the active surface of the rail anchor is in close contact with the wooden bearing plate, and finally tighten the bolt with a torque of 150 N m. Tighten the connecting bolts after 2 to 3 weeks of use. It should be noted that it is strictly forbidden to hit the installed rail anchor with a heavy hammer to prevent damage to the rail anchor under high stress.

The weld-on shoulder fastening makes it possible to manufacture the rails retaining units on the steel sleeper and the steel base plate when the E-shaped rail clamp is used for rail fastening.
Even if the cast-in shoulders are usually embedded in the concrete rail sleeper, they can be welded to a longer length of the steel track section or bearers for the manufacture of switches and cross arrangements using vertical rail geometries.
